PROCESS

Naming my projects is always a challenge, but "Slowfast" was born from a playful contradiction: the fast food experience, reimagined through the lens of slow, mindful enjoyment. The name itself merges two opposing ideas—"fast" and "slow"to create a catchy and thought-provoking identity for the collection.

This project began when Ariane challenged me to create something truly unique—something that had never been seen on the market before. While I have worked with porcelain in the past, this time my inspiration came directly from fast food packaging, which is typically disposable and single-use. In contrast, porcelain is durable and enduring. This juxtaposition became the core of the concept and guided every stage of the production process.

People often ask where I find inspiration. For me, it never comes from other artists, designers, or architects, but from daily life—my own observations and experiences. Sustainability has always been a key focus, not just because it is a trend, but because it is a responsibility. We began developing Slowfast nine years ago, long before the current wave of eco-consciousness, already addressing the issue of single-use packaging.

The idea for Slowfast came to me during a meeting at Ariane's factory in Ahmedabad, India. I started sketching immediately and sent the drawings to my team in Barcelona. The creative process was smooth, as my vision was clear from the outset. However, turning that vision into a tangible product was a real challenge. Working closely with Ariane's technical team, we developed multiple prototypes, refining the design through constant feedback and collaboration.

A key inspiration was observing how burgers and chips are served in upscale restaurants—often on standard plates. I wondered: why not elevate the original packaging, transforming it into something well-designed and long-lasting? The result is a collection that honors the fast food experience while promoting sustainability and reuse. Slowfast is designed to be used and cherished for years. As a designer, it is an honor to create something that resists aging and remains relevant—especially as the world grows more focused on sustainable solutions.

Ariane, as a relatively young brand, stands out by embracing bold, distinctive projects. This collection gives a voice to younger designers and brands willing to challenge conventions. I am proud to contribute to this spirit of innovation and forward-thinking design. On a personal note, the last 12 to 13 years have been challenging for me. Although I previously received design awards in the U.S., Australia, and Milan, there was a long period without recognition.

Receiving the German Design Award for Slowfast has reignited my passion and confidence:

“Yes, I can do this. I want to do more.”

I am truly honored to receive this award, and I am deeply grateful to Ariane for the opportunity to create something meaningful and positive.
Thank you very much.
